Alexandre Plokhov

Runway- Alexandre Plokhov M S 13

Keeping with the ‘punk theme’ for my guys, it’s all about Alexandre Plokhov‘s Spring 2013 collection.  This is the high-fashion punk.  It’s a cool mix of tight and loose pieces, layering over each other.  I’ll admit, this look cannot be pulled off by every guy (and shouldn’t), but you can take inspiration from it.  Try wearing an all black look to channel your inner dark side.  Next, try to wear a necklace with a breezy layered tee and your dark blue jeans.  Even though each of these looks have a crisp feel, it’s not stuffy or super tailored.  Relax and let out your inner punk.

Do you wear all black, punk looks?

Met Gala makes you Punk

Everything- Met Gala makes you Punk S 13

Last night’s Met Gala was dripping in a ’punk’ theme.  It was about bringing out your inner punk-style.  There were so many different interpretations of what punk meant to each designer and celeb.  I couldn’t help but show you the modern, every day punk (through my style).  Using the denim shirt and color blocking trends, I chose this insanely amazing dress.  It has a personality of it’s own (it’s my inner preppy punk girl, if that’s possible).  For accessories, load up with metals and geometrical shapes.  These shapes give the outfit a heavy, edgy kick.  I have a feeling we’re going to see more edgy styles and smokey eyes this summer.  Add a little extra hardware and punk inspired pieces into your wardrobe.

Christian Dior

Runway- Christian Dior Sp C 13

Let’s pause and have a little Dior moment……. ok.  I’m in love with the silhouettes and prints in Christian Dior‘s Spring 2013 Couture collection.  It’s all about a sharp edge but with lots of volume.  These dramatic, strapless necklines are modern but still chic and classy.  I’m also loving the colors and prints.  Masculine stripes can turn super feminine when done on the right silhouette, while a super girly floral print can be edgy with the right pairings- like this orange trench and high-waist trouser.  Try using your prints to make an unexpected feel to your look.  Happy Monday!

Cinco de Mayo me

Everything- Cinco de Mayo me S 13

This Sunday is Cinco de Mayo.  Translation- the fifth of May.  Originally celebrated in Puebla, Mexico (a city I’ve actually visited years ago), it’s now celebrated in the US as well, so get ready for a party!  History lesson- OVER.  Let’s break out the tacos and margaritas now.  In my fashion world, I’m thinking yellow, red and green should be the color scheme of the weekend.  Here’s a little color love and style inspiration for you.  Happy celebrating!

Olympia Le-Tan

Inspiration- Olympia Le Tan F 13

Today’s look was inspired by Olympia Le-Tan’s Fall 2013 collection.  Yes, I know I’m fast-forwarding to fall today but I just got some suspenders and was looking for some cool styling muses.  This collection has a German-heritage feel to it.  I love all the rich fabrics but had to pick pieces that were weather appropriate for spring.  For my look, I chose printed shorts, simple black tank and pops of color.  If you’re going to rock a menswear piece, like suspenders, own them.  I wanted a very classy, crisp feel to my look.  The cute heart details in Olympia’s collection gave me the idea to use girly pink and yellows in my look.  Playful-cool, I’m naming my own look (yeah whatevs).

Would you rock some suspenders?

Walking light

Everything- Walking Light Sp 13 M

This season, I’m excited for men’s shoes to take a summer-in-the-Hamptons twist.  The colors are light and neutral while the fabrics are breezy.  These linen, jersey and woven shoes are perfect for your wardrobe.  I’d suggest trying a lighter colored for your shoes.  Whether it’s a tan or light grey fabric or a lighter colored sole- it’ll give your look a light ‘refresh’.  A lighter shoe will instantly give your wardrobe a more summery feel.  These fabrics are so casual and classy.  They kind of have a beachy-date-night vibe going on.  Take a step out and try a different style or fabric for your summer shoe.

The right fitting suit

Everything- Take me away Sp 13

Take me away on a vacation in one of these.  When exposing yourself in little amounts of clothing, aka in a swimsuit, it’s all about finding the right fit for your body.  I’m going to give you a few tips to finding the style, fit and brand of swimsuit that will work for your body.

Full Coverage

For a more full-coverage feel, go with the 1-piece suit.  This printed suit draws your eyes in, creating the illusion of a slimmer waistline.  The peek-a-boo cut-out also adds a touch of sex appeal that women assume they won’t get from a 1-piece suit.  Avoid cut-outs on the sides or stomach, unless you’re asking to show where you’re hiding your dessert you had last night.

Hips Don’t Lie

If you’ve got hips-for-days, tie-side bikini bottoms are for you.  They sit higher on your hips and give the illusion of longer, slimmer legs (trust me on this one).  Avoid a thick band on your hips, as it draws more attention to them.  For a woman with boxy or straight hips, try thicker sides on your bottoms.  They will help create a shape on your hips and backside.

Tatas for Life

Lastly, let’s talk about your boobs!  I’m loving a wired bandeau top for a fuller-cup-sized woman.  They offer side support and a lift, while still being flirty.  For a smaller bust, choose a fringe, ruffled or printed top.  These give the impression of a little extra volume and dimension.

Once you find a brand that works FOR your body, stick to it!

Which swimsuit fits do you wear?

Teal Bandeau/Tie Side: L*Space

Printed Bandeau: Mara Hoffman

1-Piece Suit: Zero + Maria Cornejo

Fringe Bikini: Mara Hoffman

Katie Gallagher

Runway- Katie Gallagher Sp 13

Today, I was inspired by Katie Gallagher’s Spring 2013 collection.  It’s heating up around the world and that means one thing- swimsuit time.  Don’t let your body-conscious feelings control your summer style.  Katie’s collection is all about feeling sexy and cool in your summer clothes.  Try a bandeau with a high-waisted skirt, a cut-out one piece or layers of sheers (above).  Each of these looks are refreshing and will work for all types of bodies.  I love how everything in this collection has a little edge.  More of my favorites below.
